The Pre-Purchase Survey
|

|
By February 2000 Artanis was still for sale, I had her pulled out of the water for a survey which found some problems with the propeller shaft and rudder and a slight thinning of the hull on the starboard bottom plate. There was extensive pitting of the hull partly due to her never having had any protective anodes and possibly exacerbated by an earth leakage fault.

There were also problems inside... the shower unit has obviously leaked over a considerable period and caused rot to set in the floor. The gas system also needs upgrading before her next boat safety inspection in 2002.

Work on Artanis falls into two categories, below the water and above. While out of the water, I asked High Line to carry out all the surveyor's below water recommendations: replacing the propeller shaft, repairs to the rudder, welding of new steel over the thinned section of hull and fitting of four sacrificial anodes.

In view of the pitting, a new epxoy based hull coating was applied which should last at least two or three times as long as the more traditional tar based paint.
